Back Online Built Better

The last few weeks have highlighted something that is easy to forget when you run a photography business: your website is part of your business infrastructure, not simply a place to display photographs. The portrait site experienced an outage and there were problems with enquiries and delays in emails while Cloudflare was hosting the site. That meant potential communication with clients was not working as reliably as it should. I have now moved the site to a more secure setup designed to provide faster updates and more reliable operation. The training page is live and enquiries are flowing again.

That experience also reinforced why I believe photographers need to understand more than just taking great photographs. If you are starting a photography business, you need to understand how your website should work, how to make sure potential clients can actually contact you, how to present your services, how to price your work and how to market yourself. Every part of that journey matters because a weakness in one area can mean losing an opportunity to turn an interested visitor into a client.

My photography training will cover the basics, intermediate skills and advanced techniques, but it will not be bog standard training where you sit through a lesson, take notes and then forget most of it. My approach is to make sure you understand what you have learned well enough to retain it, explain it and actually implement it yourself. Whether you need help improving your photography, building a photography business, understanding marketing, setting prices or making your website work harder for you, the training is based on practical solutions that have been tried and tested through years of teaching photography and computers.

I will also be publishing new posts approximately every two weeks, covering photography, business, technology, marketing and the practical issues that photographers face. The aim is simple: to give photographers useful information they can actually apply rather than generic advice that sounds good but changes nothing. If you are learning photography, thinking about turning your photography into a business or already running a photography business and want to improve how it works, there is a lot more to come. The training is about giving you the knowledge and confidence to do it properly, not simply showing you what buttons to press.

The important thing is not simply to learn something. It is to understand it well enough to use it when it matters.
