Marketing Your Business

Taking great photographs is only half the business

Marketing Your Business

Many photographers spend years improving their photography but very little time learning how to actually market the business. They invest in better cameras, lenses and software, yet struggle to find consistent clients or turn enquiries into bookings.
The uncomfortable truth is that being a good photographer does not automatically make you a successful photography business. You can produce exceptional images and still remain almost invisible to the people who would happily pay for your services. Marketing is what connects your photography with those potential clients.

Marketing your photography business does not necessarily mean spending large amounts of money on advertising. It means understanding who you want to photograph, what makes your service different, how potential clients find you and why they should choose you rather than another photographer. Your website, social media, Google presence, recommendations and the way you present your work all form part of that marketing system.

This is one of the areas covered in Mastering Digital Photography, the third book in my three part photography series. The book goes beyond camera settings and photographic technique to look at what it takes to become a more capable and commercially aware photographer. Because if photography is going to become a business, you need to understand the business as well as the camera.

Your photography is the product. Your marketing gets it noticed.

A photography business cannot rely on simply posting another photograph and hoping someone enquires. You need a clear message, a recognisable style and a reason for your ideal client to choose you. The good news is that you already have the most important asset: your photography. The challenge is learning how to present it properly and consistently to the people who are most likely to become clients. Mastering Digital Photography helps bring those elements together, giving photographers a broader understanding of what it means to move beyond simply taking photographs.

Mastering Digital Photography is the third book in the three part series for photographers who want to develop beyond simply taking better photographs.

Learn the photography. Understand the business. Master the craft.
